Course description

The motto of this basic course is "collect as many climbing meters as possible". In this course you will learn in a playful way how to safely use ice tools, the basic climbing techniques on steep ice, the basic safety technique with the rope and you will become familiar with the element of ice.

Courses are always difficult for me to organize because the group size and thus the minimum number of participants is often not reached. That's annoying, because some time was already spent on the planning and it's a shame if the course doesn't take place after all. That's why I offer those who can organize a group of friends or acquaintances a "treat" of -10% of the course costs. The participants in smaller groups often make more progress than in large groups, so I have generally limited myself to a maximum of 4 participants on many courses in order to be able to get the best out of everyone.

Program

1 day.:Meeting point and welcome at the Matreier Tauernhaus at 9.00 a.m. Here we will supplement the missing rental equipment and hike together to the waterfalls, which we will reach in about 15 minutes. There is a brief introduction to the material in the Tauernhaus. In the evening your mountain guide will hold another theory session on steep ice climbing.

2 day.:After breakfast we start back to the ice park, where we turn to the right climbing technique today. We climb until our hands get longer and in the evening there will be another theory session.

3 day.:Once again we stay in Austria's largest ice park and repeat all the rope and climbing techniques we have learned. 

Goal of the course

The aim of the course is to collect as many meters of climbing as possible in order to achieve safe and harmonious movement on steep ice. You will become familiar with the safe handling of the sharp ice tools.

The Matreier Tauernhaus serves as the ideal accommodation for this event.

  • Avalanche airbag system: € 30 / day

  • Travel insurance: This must be taken out by the participant independently before the start of the event. Insurance can be taken out with the respective alpine clubs.
